Simon Vellas is a researcher and PhD candidate at the Remote Sensing Lab of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He received his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from NTUA in 2016. From 2017 to 2021, he worked as an FPGA and Hardware Design Engineer for Avionics Systems at the Institute of Space Systems of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremen, where he focused on the development of distributed, scalable on-board computers for space avionics and on research in edge AI for space systems. From 2021 to 2023, he was responsible for the technical development of next-generation on-board computer architectures and high-performance on-board processing at OHB Hellas. His research interests include on-board data processing, edge AI, cognitive decision intelligence, and autonomous space systems.
