Behnood Rasti is a Senior Research Scientist at the Remote Sensing Laboratory, School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. He received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iceland in 2014, and his MSc and BSc degrees in Electrical-Electronics Engineering from the University of Guilan, Iran, in 2009 and 2006, respectively.
Prior to joining NTUA, he held research and academic positions at Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) & the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD), Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), and the University of Iceland. He was also a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship in Germany.
His research focuses on Earth observation, machine learning, and signal and image processing, with particular expertise in hyperspectral and multispectral remote sensing, multisensor data fusion, and self-supervised and foundation models. His work spans spectral unmixing, image restoration, classification, multisensor data fusion, and self-supervised learning. His current research interests include Earth observation foundation models, vision-language models, and physics-guided learning for environmental monitoring and analysis.
He is an IEEE Senior Member and serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters.
